An Inside Look at Our Worship Service
A typical service at Pathways is a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary elements. While specific sermon themes and musical styles vary week to week, you can generally expect to experience these core elements during our time together:
Words of Welcome
A formal opening greeting to center ourselves and gather our hearts together.
Lighting the Flaming Chalice
We ignite the universal symbol of our faith to officially mark the beginning of our sacred time.
Story for All Ages
A clean, creative, multi-generational segment that explicitly engages both children and adults alike before kids head to classes.
Music & Creative Art
We incorporate both dynamic instrumental and vocal music pulled across a massive variety of global styles.
Milestones of Community
A dedicated, intimate time to recognize, share, and hold the personal joys and sorrows of our members and friends.
Readings & Meditation
Shared ancient or contemporary literature and poetry, followed by a communal time of deep silent reflection.
The Sermon / Presentation
Given by our professional minister, guest speakers, or members, covering a broad layout of spiritual, philosophical, and social justice topics.
The Offering
We collect financial donations to directly fund the work of our congregation and local justice initiatives in the Hurst area.
Special Services
Beyond our weekly Common Ground services, we hold unique ceremonies throughout the year that celebrate the cycles of nature, seasonal holidays, and our shared communal values:
- Water Communion & Flower Communion: Our signature intergenerational shared rituals.
- Seasonal Holidays: Deep observances for Winter Solstice, Christmas Eve, and Easter Sunday.
- Rites of Passage: Beautiful personal ceremonies to honor significant life steps within our community families.
Music and Choir
Music is the functional heartbeat of our collective worship experience. Our community program is intentionally inclusive, diverse, and open to all styles:
- The Pathways Choir: We warmly welcome singing voices of all technical skill levels to help lead our congregation in song. No gatekeeping.
- Diverse Expressions: From classical movements and standard traditional hymns to modern folk and contemporary selections, we weave melody to deepen our gatherings.
